OUR STORY
Our statement
My photography is inspired by individualities, family love, and communities. Being a first-generation Asian American, I grew up without knowing the faces of my ancestors, only hearing their stories from immediate family members. Lacking images to connect these stories, I have always felt a deep curiosity about my ancestors. This longing to see the faces of those who came before me has influenced my focus on taking portraits of people and the objects that hold significance to them I photograph transitory moments and joyful moments through pictures, family gatherings, and other types of events. Being able to document these events conserves history for future generations.
I use a digital Sony camera and post-processing applications to produce my work. The digital camera allows for precise capture of individualities' defining characteristics, and I appreciate its effectiveness in recording history. When using these applications, my end isn't to distort or alter features but to enhance the aspects the subject wishes to highlight.
For me, photography has evolved into an important tool for expression, representation, community- structure, and documentation. Through the lens of a camera, I am able to find the means to articulate the complications of everyone's journeys I encounter and celebrate the burst of adaptability that defines our experiences. As a photographer and first-generation Asian American, I'm committed to using photography to document and amplify the voices and stories of individuals like myself, ensuring that our photographs and videos aren't only seen but also valued and celebrated for future generations.
